EASY ENGLISH TRIFLE | |
1 sponge cake or lady fingers 1 pt. Jello (any fruit flavor) 1/2 pt. Bird's Custard (available in gourmet section of food store) Chopped fresh fruit or drained canned fruit 1/2 pt. whipping cream Sweet sherry Garnishes In the bottom of a dish at least 3 inches deep, place a layer of cake. Soak with sherry, using enough to make it very moist. Make Jello and allow to thicken but not set solidly. Pour cooled Jello over sponge and add a thick layer of fruit. Refrigerate to set. Make custard, cool, and the pour over Jello-fruit mixture. Refrigerate. When completely cold, cover with a thick layer of whipped cream. Garnish with slivered almonds, glaze cherries, rainbow mix or fruit. Serves 6-8. |
