BEEF PASTIE 
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
4-6 tbsp. ice water
1 c. 3/4" peeled potato cubes
1/2 c. 3/4" steak cubes
2 tbsp. finely chopped onion
Salt & pepper to taste
1 tbsp. butter

Sift flour and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Add ice water 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing lightly with fork until mixture clings together. Roll on lightly floured surface cut into 8" or 9" circle, using dinner plate as pattern. Place on baking sheet. Layer 1/2 cup potatoes, 1/4 cup steak and 1 tablespoon onion on half the circle; repeat layers. Add salt, pepper and butter. Fold dough over to enclose filling, crimp edge to seal. Cut steam vents on top. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees. Bake for 45 minutes longer.
