BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced cucumbers, sliced real thin
6 medium onions, sliced thin
1 sweet pepper (red), sliced thin
1 green pepper, sliced thin
3 c. vinegar
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Slice cucumbers and add onions and peppers. Add 1/3 cup salt and cover with crushed ice. Mix thoroughly. Let pickles set 3 hours with ice and then drain well. Combine pickling ingredients and pour over the other ingredients. Heat to boiling and pack in hot sterilized jars. Seal with hot lids immediately. Makes 8 pints.
