Cut the center out of a head of cabbage and steam it, and carefully take out the leaves, shaving off the hard vein in the back of the cabbage leaf. Then preboil rice in water and have 1 pound hamburger and 1 pound ground raw pork, you chop up 2 large onions and fry them separately, then mix the rice, raw meat, onions, salt and pepper together. Take and put a very big tablespoon of the mixture into the cabbage leaf and wrap it up (mixture in the leaf). Put them in a large kettle, one on top of each other. Then pour 1 medium can of tomato sauce or paste and 1 can of water on top and steam it for 2 hours or more. It is very good.
Note: These are what Nina, our new friend from Russia made at our house when she and her son Alexy were with us for Christmas. I think German people make this too, my Mother always made these.
