HERRINGBONE BROWNIES 
2/3 c. butter
1 1/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. flour
1/4 to 1/3 c. cocoa
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. nuts, if desired

Melt butter in saucepan. Remove from heat. Add sugar, mixing well. Beat eggs in one at a time. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add to sugar mixture. Stir in vanilla. Mix in oats and nuts. Spoon into greased 8 or 9 inch square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool; cut while warm. Yields 16 brownies.
