GRANNY'S DATE NUT BREAD 
1 tbsp. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 pkg. pitted dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
2 3/4 c. plain flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans

Cut dates in small pieces. Pour 1 1/2 cups boiling water over dates. Let set. Cream sugar and butter together. Add egg. Mix flour and soda. Add alternately with date water and dates. Add vanilla. Add nuts. Pour into one long bread pan or two short pans. Bake at 325 degrees for 45-60 minutes. Slice and top with cream cheese.
