2 c. sugar 4 tbsp. cocoa 1/2 c. butter 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. salt 2 c. flour 1 c. water 1/2 c. shortening 1/2 c. buttermilk 2 eggs 1 tsp. baking soda FROSTING: 1 cube butter 4 tbsp. cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped walnuts 6 tbsp. milk 1 box powdered sugar Cake: Mix flour and sugar together; set aside. Melt shortening and butter in saucepan. Add water and cocoa. Bring to a boil. Pour over flour and sugar. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, salt and vanilla. Mix together well. Pour in ungreased jelly roll pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Do not overbake. Frost with the following while cake is still hot. Frosting: Bring cocoa, butter and milk to a boil. Add sugar, nuts and vanilla. Spread on hot cake. Great for potlucks. |
