KATIE'S DELICIOUS CARAMELS | |
1 1/2 cups Karo syrup 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional but tastes great) Cook all ingredients over low heat for about 30 minutes or until it starts to harden (246°F to 250°F on a candy thermometer). Do not put over high heat - it WILL stick!! Note: To check if the caramels are done... get a bowl of ice and water and drop a little on the ice... if it hardens and tastes chewy... its done. Butter pan and pour caramel into it. Let harden and cut into pieces, wrap with wax paper twisting at the ends... Perfect candy for the Holidays that the whole family can enjoy making... and eating!
