1 lb. dates, cut up
1 c. sugar
1 c. walnuts, cut up
4 eggs, separated
1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix ingredients in order given. Beat egg whites stiff and fold in last. Spread 1/2" thick in 9" pan, bake 30 minutes. An hour before serving, break half of cake in pieces and arrange on a platter. Over the cake arrange 3 or 4 bananas and 2 oranges cut up. Then break up other 1/2 of cake and pile on top of fruit in a mount shape. Over this, pour 1 cup crushed pineapple with juice and let stand until ready to serve. Then spread 1 1/2 pints whipped cream (with cherries and nuts) over all.
