2 1/2 c. white sugar
2 c. (1 lb. shortening; use 1/2 Crisco and 1/2 butter, melted)
3 eggs
2 tbsp. light Karo corn syrup
5 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
3/4 c. dates, cut very fine

At Christmas time use 1/2 cup red and green candy baking cherries.

After mixing ingredients put in rolls on waxed paper cookie sheet overnight. Cut in slices, like quarter or half size and bake until golden brown, in 350 degree oven. Makes 3-4 dozen.
