GINGER SNAPS 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 1/4 c. flour, sifted (no more - makes it hard)
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Cream shortening, brown sugar, molasses and egg. Sift together flour, soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Stir into molasses mixture. Form in small balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 12 minutes. Makes 5 dozen.
