OLD FASHIONED GINGER SNAPS 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses (dark)
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Sift together the soda, flour, salt, ginger, ground cloves and cinnamon. Add dry ingredients to the shortening mixture and beat for 2 minutes or until all of the dry ingredients are absorbed. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled (preferably overnight). Form in small balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
