PORTUGUESE BREAD | |
2 yeast cakes 1/4 c. warm water 1/4 c. milk 1 c. sugar 1/4 c. butter 1 tsp. salt 3 eggs 5 c. flour Dissolve yeast in water. Scald milk and add to sugar, butter and salt. When cool, add eggs and yeast mixture. Sift flour and work into dough. Knead and place in buttered bowl - turn cover and let rise to double - punch down and shape to 2 round loaves. Place in two 9 inch buttered pie plates - cover and let rise. Brush top with milk. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes. |
