TEA SCONES
3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter
3/4 c. raisins
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 c. light cream or evaporated milk

Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, soda and salt. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the butter into flour mixture until resembles coarse meal. Add raisins. Gradually add buttermilk and mix until dough clings together.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat into a 1/2 inch thick round. Cut the scones with a 2 inch biscuit cutter and place on a buttered baking sheet. Brush the tops with cream. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
