SPICE PICKLES 
1 gal. cucumbers, cut
8 lg. onions, sliced & separated
2 pods red hot pepper
5 c. sugar
5 c. vinegar
1 tbsp. pickling spices
1 tsp. turmeric
1/2 c. salt (plain)

In large dish pan, place cucumbers, onions and peppers. Sprinkle 1/2 cup salt (plain). Cover with ice and let stand 3 hours.

In saucepan mix sugar, vinegar, spices and turmeric. Bring to boil and pour over drained vegetables. Simmer (do not boil). Heat jars and seal. Do not pack vegetables in jars, place them in gently.
