SPICED ICE PICKLES 
7 lbs. sm. green tomatoes (or cucumbers), sliced thin

Soak overnight in 2 gallons cold water that has 3 cups of lime added (2 cups lime for cucumbers). Next morning, wash in clear water 3 times and the 4th time soak in ice water for 3 hours. Make a raw syrup of 3 quarts vinegar, 8 pounds sugar, and 1 package spices for pickling (tie in cloth). Soak in raw syrup 4 hours. Cook one hour from boiling time just on simmer; fill jars with pickles, then add juice.
