FABULOUS CHOCOLATE CREAM CAKE | |
2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/4 lb. bar German chocolate 1/2 c. boiling water 1 c. shortening 2 c. granulated sugar 4 egg yolks, unbeaten 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 c. buttermilk 4 egg whites Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 3 (9-inch) layer pans. Stir flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Melt chocolate in boiling water and cool. In large bowl with electric mixer mix shortening with sugar until very light. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well. Add vanilla and melted chocolate; mix to blend. Add flour mixture alternately with butter. Fold in egg whites stiffly beaten. Pour into 3 cake pans. Bake 30-35 minutes. Test for doneness. Frost with whipped cream. Sometimes I just make a butter frosting for this cake. |
