1 1/3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. milk
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift dry ingredient together. Add shortening and milk, blend. Beat 2 minutes with electric mixer at medium speed, scraping bowl and spoon often. Add egg and vanilla and blend. Beat 2 minutes. Batter will be thin, you can add a little milk if you want. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes in greased pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches or 9 inch round pan.
