CONGO BARS 
2 3/4 c. regular white flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening (or 1 1/3 stick butter)
1 lb. box brown sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Melt shortening, add sugar and mix well. Let cool slightly, then add eggs, beating after each addition. Add the flour mixture, chocolate chips and nuts. Spread in a greased pan 1 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cut in squares. Makes 3 dozen.

Double recipe makes enough for "Sunday morning coffee fellowship."
