RED VELVET CAKE 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
2 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cream sugar and Crisco. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla. Mix dry ingredients. Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk, vinegar and coloring. Batter is thin. Pour in 2 greased and floured pans. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

ICING:

3 tbsp. flour
Salt
1 c. milk
1 c. Crisco
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Combine flour, salt and milk. Cook until thickened. Cool. Mix Crisco, sugar and vanilla. Add cooked mixture and beat.
