DUTCH APPLE CAKE | |
1 c. flour 1/4 c. shortening 1 tbsp. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt eat together: 1 egg 1/4 c. milk 4-5 apples, depending on side (cut in wedges) TOPPING: 1/4 c. melted butter 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Place flour, shortening, sugar, baking powder and salt in bowl. Mix with pastry blender or fork. Add egg and milk mixture and stir until flour is moistened. Spread in 9 inch layer cake pan. Place apple slices on top. Brush apples with 1/4 cup melted butter. Sprinkle apples with mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes. |
