RAISIN SQUARES 
4 1/2 c. flour
1/2 lb. lard
1 egg & 1 c. milk mixed together

FILLING:

1 1/2 lbs. raisins
2 grated apples
1 c. sugar
1 c. water

Cook 5 minutes, add 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with a little water to thicken.

CRUST: Cut flour and lard together; add egg and milk mixture to form dough (save about 2 tablespoons for glazing). Roll out half of dough and line bottom of 11 x 16 inch shallow pan. Add filling and cover with remaining half of dough. Glaze with some egg, milk mixture.

Pinch edges with fork and prick top crust all over with fork. Sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake at 350 degrees until golden brown. Cool, sprinkle with granulated or confectioners' sugar and cut into squares.
