RED CABBAGE 
1 red cabbage
1 sm. onion
2-3 tbsp. cooking oil
1 c. water
1/4 c vinegar
1 tbsp. white sugar
Salt to taste
1 apple, cubed
2 cloves
3-4 peppercorns
1-2 bay leaves
Pinch garlic salt

Wash and core cabbage, then shred finely. Saute the onion in cooking oil. Add cabbage and stir. Add water and vinegar. Sprinkle with sugar and salt. Add the cubed apple (not necessary to remove skin), cloves, peppercorns, bay leaves, garlic salt. Simmer, covered for 3/4 of an hour. Serve 4 to 6.
