NUTRITIOUS FRUIT BARS 
1 c. whole wheat flour
1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 c. wheat germ
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. quick-cooking rolled oats
1 c. liquid honey
1 c. (2 sticks) butter, melted

Combine flours, wheat germ, baking soda, salt and oats together in bowl, mixing well with fork. Add honey and butter and blend well. Pack half of mixture in bottom of greased 9x13x2-inch pan. Spread with Honey Date filling (see below). Drop remaining oats mixture over top. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into bars.

Honey Date Filling:

1 lb. dates, cut up
3/4 c. liquid honey
1/4 c. orange juice
1 tbsp. orange rind
pinch of salt

Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Bring to a boil, turn down heat and boil gently, stirring until thick, about 5 minutes.
