2 squares chocolate
1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
1/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. unbeaten egg whites or 3 lg. whites

Mix chocolate and boiling water to a smooth paste. Sift together in a bowl the sugar, soda, flour, cream of tartar and salt. Add shortening, milk and vanilla. Add unbeaten egg whites. Beat 1 minute. Add chocolate paste. Beat 1 more minute.
