YUMMY OATMEAL CAKE 
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.

Pour 1 1/4 cups boiling water over 1 cup oatmeal and 1 stick (1/4 pound) butter. Let stand 10 to 20 minutes.

Add to oatmeal mixture:

1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 1/3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Stir gently. DO NOT USE MIXER. Pour into buttered pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. (I use 9 x 9 pan.)

TOPPING:

MIX TOPPING while baking cake.

3/4 stick softened butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. canned milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. shredded coconut & chopped nuts (mixed)

Pour icing on hot cake and brown under broiler about 10 minutes or until nicely browned. Leave in pan, cut in squares when cool.

I use a 9 x 9 pan, for a larger pan double recipe. My husband calls this a "sticky gooey" cake and it doesn't last long around our house.
