CHICKEN AND ASPARAGUS AU GRATIN
CASSEROLE
 
4 c. soft bread, cut in sm. cubes
1 c. grated cheddar cheese
1/2 c. melted butter
2 c. cooked asparagus
1/2 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
3 c. milk
2 c. diced cooked chicken

Mix breads crumbs with cheese and 1/4 cup of the melted butter. Line a glass baking dish with half of the crumbs. Arrange asparagus tips on crumbs. Blend flour, salt, and pepper and remaining 1/4 cup of butter, then add milk and cook, stirring until thick and smooth. Add chicken and pour over asparagus. Sprinkle top with remaining bread crumbs. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Bread crumbs should be golden brown before removing from oven.
