THE BEST SWEET PICKLES | |
1/2 c. salt per gallon water 2 tbsp. alum per gallon water Vinegar Sugar Pickles (cucumbers) 1 tsp. spices per jar (1 pt.) Mix salt with water. Put whole wash cucumbers in salted water for 7 days on 8th day take out wash, slice thin. Put in alum water for 24 hours. Next day, wash and drain 10 minutes. Put in jar 24 hours with vinegar; drain. Put in a dish pan. Cover with sugar; let stand a few minutes, then lay pickle in jar with 1 teaspoon spices. Cover with sugar syrup. Seal. |
