CARAMEL ROLLS | |
1/2 c. warm water 1 tsp. sugar 2 pkg. yeast 2 c. boiling water 2/3 c. sugar 1/3 c. shortening 1 tbsp. butter 1/2 c. potato flakes 1 tbsp. salt 1/2 c. dry powdered milk 2 eggs 6 c. flour Mix first 3 ingredients and set aside. Boil water and add next 6 ingredients. Cool and add 2 eggs and beat. Add yeast mixture and 6 cups flour. Punch down 4 times in the next 2 hours. Put in pans and let rise 20 minutes or more. Bake 20 minutes at 375 degrees. Not necessary to knead this recipe. Pour following caramel sauce over rolls before baking. When done invert pan immediately. CARAMEL SAUCE: 1 c. brown sugar 1/2 c. thick cream 1/4 c. dark Karo syrup Bring ingredients to a boil and cool. This is enough sauce to give a light caramel coating to 2 pans (9 x 13 inch) of rolls. |
