1 c. raisins
1 c. applesauce
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, unbeaten
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix raisins and applesauce; set aside. Combine sugar, shortening and egg. Beat until fluffy. Add raisins and applesauce. Sift flour with salt, soda and spices. Add and mix well. Stir in nuts. Drop the soft dough by rounded teaspoon 2" apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 13 to 15 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
