OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
4 c. rolled oats
4 c. flour
2 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar, beat in eggs, add buttermilk with soda dissolved in it. Combine dry ingredients, add raisins and nuts and mix with the first mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls on ungreased baking sheets and bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Approximately 10 dozen.
