MRS. G. W. MORRIS' FRUIT COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. sour milk
3/4 c. pecans
3/4 c. cherries
3/4 c. dates
36 pecan halves
Pineapple, citron, raisins, etc. may be added if desired

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually; cream well. Add beaten egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add broken nut meats and fruit. Drop small amount on cookie sheet. Garnish with pecan halves. Bake 10 to 13 minutes at 400 degrees.
