BUTTERMILK COFFEE CAKE 
3 c. sifted flour
2 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. buttermilk

Cut flour, sugar, and butter with pastry blender until crumbly. Take out 1/2 cup. To the remainder add spices and soda; mix well. Add buttermilk (and raisins if desired).

Pour into 9x13 or 2 (8-inch) square pans. Sprinkle the 1/2 cup crumb mixture over top. Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees. This recipe can be frozen after baking and reheated before serving.
