MOTHER'S OLD - FASHIONED
BUTTERMILK COFFEE CAKE
 
2 c. light brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter
2 c. flour
1 c. chopped nuts
1 beaten egg
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sugar, butter, flour, and nuts. Measure one cup and set aside for topping. Add the beaten egg, milk, soda, and vanilla. Place batter in a buttered 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle with the reserved topping. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
