BOILED RAISIN CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. water
1 lb. raisins
1/4 c. shortening
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs, beaten
3 1/2 c. flour
1/4 lb. nuts
1 lb. dates
1 sm. bottle maraschino cherries & juice
1 lb. gumdrops (except back colored ones)

Cut gumdrops into small pieces and toss with 1 tablespoon flour.

Boil sugar, water, raisins and shortening for 3 minutes. Cool to lukewarm. Add soda, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Stir, then add eggs and flour; mix well. Then add nuts, dates, cherries and gumdrops. Pour in greased pan 9 x 14 x 2 inches. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
