MARTHA WOEBBECKE'S THREE BEST
PIES
 
CHOCOLATE PIE:

1 c. sugar
3 tbsp.cornstarch
Pinch of salt
2 c. milk
1 sq. chocolate
3 eggs
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix in saucepan sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in milk. Add cut up chocolate. Boil 1 minute. Beat egg yolk. Add small amount of filling to yolks, stirring well. Stir in rest of filling. Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Blend in butter and vanilla. Pour into baked pie shell. Cover with meringue or chill and serve with Cool Whip.

VARIATION - BUTTERSCOTCH PIE:

1 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. butter

VARIATION - CREAM PIE:

1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
2 eggs
