BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES | |
18 med. cucumbers 8 sm. white onions 1 green pepper 1 red pepper 1/2 c. coarse salt Good amount of cracked ice 5 c. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. tumeric 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 2 tsp. mustard seed 2 tsp. of celery seed 5 c. white vinegar 1 lg. crock to make it in Slice thin cucumbers, onions, peppers. Add salt. Cover with cracked ice good amount. Mix all in crock, let stand for 3 hours. Drain after 3 hours. Combine other ingredients in large pot. pour over mixture, bring to a boil. Put pickles in sterile mason jars. Makes 8 pints or 4 quarts or 1 gallon. |
