1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco shortening
1 c. creamy or chunky peanut butter
2 eggs
1/4 c. milk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream sugars, butter, Crisco, and peanut butter together. Beat in eggs, one at a time, milk and vanilla. Sift together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Mix well into other ingredients. Shape into balls (1 inch size). Dip ball in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Immediately press a chocolate star or Hershey's kiss into each cookie after they are removed from oven. Cool until chocolate candy is hardened.
