OLD-FASHIONED TEA CAKES 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
All-purpose flour
1/3 c. buttermilk

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Stir baking powder and soda in 1 cup of flour. Add alternately with buttermilk. Beat well. Then put in bowl and gradually work in enough flour to roll. Cut and bake in a 375 degree oven until lightly brown.
