KENTUCKY FRIED APPLES | |
3 med. tart cooking apples (2 2/3 c.) 3/4 - 1 c. sugar 1/3 c. butter Peel a 1 1/2" strip around the center of the apple. This band will remove about a third of the apple peel. Cut the apple in quarters. Next slice each quarter into 3 to 4 sections. Place the apples, sugar and butter in a very heavy skillet or cooking pan. Cover and place on medium heat. Allow 10 minutes or cooking time when mixture begins to cook. Remove the cover and cook 5 to 10 minutes longer, until apples are tender and rather transparent. You may need to reduce the heat to low during this final cooking stage. Should your apples be very dry you may wish to add a small amount of water. NOTE: You may want to add more sugar, all depends on the tartness of the apples used. Sweeten to taste. |
