1 gal. whole, unpeeled, medium sized cucumbers
4 c. white vinegar
3 tbsp. mixed pickling spices
2 tbsp. alum
4 tbsp. non - iodized salt
Put cucumbers in glass jar. Add spices, salt, alum and vinegar. Fill remainder of jar with cold water. Let stand in cool dark place for 2 months (write your date down). Take out of jar at end of 2 months. Wash brine off completely. DO NOT PEEL. Cut cucumbers into 1 inch chunks. Wash glass jar thoroughly; replace chunk cucumbers in jar. Cover cucumbers with 4 cups white sugar. Let stand in cool place until sugar is completely dissolved. Store in refrigerator.
