BEEF SUKIYAKI | |
3 lbs. lean meat or sukiyaki meat 3 c. green onions, cut into 1 1/2 inch lengths 2 c. soy sauce 1 c. sliced mushrooms 2 lbs. shiratki 1 block tofu, cut into cubes 1/4 lb. butter or beef fat 1 c. sake or mirin 1 c. sugar 4 med. onions, sliced 2 tsp. MSG Heat skillet and melt fat or butter. Drop in enough thinly sliced meat to cover pan. When meat is half cooked, add mushrooms, onions and cook about 8 minutes. Add sugar, sake, soy sauce and MSG. Tofu and green onions require very little cooking, so add last, just before serving. Variations: Chicken in place of meat. Other vegetables can be substituted - spinach, bok choy, celery, Chinese cabbage, bean sprouts are often used. |
