6 c. flour 1/2 lb. butter 1 c. sugar 1 c. jam 1 c. nuts 1 c. strawberry preserves 1 c. jelly 1 c. molasses 2 boxes raisins 1 pkg. figs, cut up 1 pkg. dates, cut up 6 eggs 1 c. grape juice 1 tbsp. allspice 1 tbsp. cinnamon 1 tbsp. ginger 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in milk Mix fruit and nuts in flour before mixing with other ingredients. Bake in slow oven at 250 degrees. First measure everything (set on table) so as not to forget anything. Now line cake pan with brown grocery HEAVY sack. Butter both sides, flour. Cake will burn if brown paper not used. CAKE - Put FLOUR in large pan, then add SPICES, NUTS and FRUITS. Mix with hands (mix well), then BEAT EGGS in another large pan. Add SUGAR and BUTTER (mix well). Add JAMS and MOLASSES and JUICE. Then buttermilk with soda. MIX WELL. Now mix this and other pan together. Sometimes it takes 3 hours and sometimes less. |
