NEVER FAIL DUMPLINGS 
1 1/2 c. flour
3 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, well beaten
5 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix flour, salt, shortening and water and egg, making stiff dough. Divide into two parts. Roll out in a very thin sheet and let dry for 15 minutes. Cut into small strips and drop in broth. Cook until tender.
