ENGLISH TEA SCONES | |
3 c. flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 3/4 c. butter 3/4 c. raisins 1 c. buttermilk 1/4 c. light cream In a bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, soda and salt. With a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal. Add the raisins. Gradually add the buttermilk and mix until dough clings together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and pat or roll into a 1/2" thick round. Cut the scones with a 2" biscuit cutter and place on a buttered baking sheet. Brush tops with cream. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 15 minutes. |
