BEER CAKE 
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar (light)
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
3 c. flour plain
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. beer
2 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream brown sugar and shortening until smooth. Add eggs, blending well. Combine dry ingredients; add to cream mixture alternately with beer beating well after each addition. Stir in pecans and dates. Bake in tube pan greased well. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes. Cool. Frost. 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1/4 c. milk 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. powdered sugar

Combine butter and brown sugar over low heat stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Add milk and bring to a boil.

Remove from heat, cool slightly. Add salt; vanilla; and sugar. Beat to spreading consistency.
