TURNIP CASSEROLE 
10 medium-size turnips
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 c. sugar
6 oz. butter, divided
salt and pepper
3/4 c. bread crumbs

Heat oven to 350°F. Use 2 tablespoons of butter to make buttered crumbs; set aside. Peel and slice turnips; cover with water and bring to the boil. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes; drain. Add more water and cook for 15 to 16 minutes. Drain and mash. Beat in the cream cheese, salt, pepper, sugar and the remaining butter; mix well. Pour into a greased casserole and cover with the buttered crumbs.

Bake until hot and lightly browned, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Makes 8 to 10 servings.
