GREEN SWEET CHUNK PICKLES 
1/4 peck slicing cucumbers

Wash and slice into 1/4 inch chunks, soak in clear water for 3 days (drain after). Place in kettle and cover with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon powdered alum for each quart of water. Bring to boil over low heat; do not boil. Let stand in alum water for 1 1/2 days.

SYRUP:

6 c. sugar
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. brown vinegar
1/4 c. mixed pickling spices tied in a cloth

Add green food coloring to above mixture until desired color is obtained. Boil. Add pickles. Heat to boiling point and can. Makes about 5 pints.
