HERMIT COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
2 2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. raisins
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. milk
2/3 c. chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and beat until fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together, add alternately with milk to the egg mixture. Add raisins and blend. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. Yield: 5 dozen.
