AMERICAN - STYLE STRATA 
12 slices sour dough bread or 6 slices whole grain bread, halved
1 3/4 c. shredded Mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
1 1/2 c. bite size pieces of cooked beef, lamb, or pork
1 c. shredded carrot or zucchini
4 eggs
2 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. crushed dried thyme leaves
1 tsp. crushed dried basil leaves

In a 10 x 6 x 2 inch baking dish, layer bread slices to cover bottom of dish. Sprinkle cheese, meat pieces, and shredded vegetables over bread. In a bowl, stir together eggs, milk, and seasonings until well mixed. Pour carefully over ingredients in baking dish. Cover. Let stand 1 hour at room temperature or in refrigerator for longer periods. Uncover. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until center is nearly set. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut into squares. Serve.
